I can still remember the first time I watched it – it was almost a decade ago, I was young and not even a film buff back then, but The Matrix still held me captivated. Even today, when I catch it just browsing Pennsylvania dirct tv, I have to stop and watch it all the way through. The plot is almost staggering in its originality (I haven’t seen anything like it before or since) and the level of detail and precision in the special effects was practically unheard of in its time. The cast walked around in black leather and trench coats and I thought they were the coolest people I’ve ever seen. I had dreams of waking up from my own matrix and joining Neo and Trinity in the fight against the machines, even though I don’t look near as awesome in sunglasses. Ah, youth.
If I had to rank it, I’d say The Matrix is one of the best movies of all time, and certainly one of the most influential.
